Ep. 332 Sunny Stone
Sunny Stone is a visionary singer, songwriter, filmmaker, and the Founder and CEO of Sunny Stone Entertainment. Her mission is to be instrumental in creatively and actively bringing hope to the world, guided by her personal philosophy: "Let my actions speak louder than my words." Sunny’s life is defined by a journey of profound resilience; born in Brooklyn, New York, she endured a harrowing childhood that included kidnapping, extreme malnutrition, and being a victim of commercial sexual exploitation between the ages of six and eight. After two years of being lost in a cycle of abuse, she was rescued by Child Protection Services. This traumatic chapter instilled in her a lifelong promise to advocate for the vulnerable and prevent others from suffering similar fates.

Her path to healing and self-discovery eventually led her to serve in the United States Air Force, where she distinguished herself as an award-winning vocalist and a producer of community outreach projects. Following her military service, she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Speech Communication from Cal State Stanislaus and refined her craft through specialized study at UCLA in the 'Alchemy of Telling True Stories.' Sunny’s artistic output is a reflection of her ongoing transformation; she released her debut solo single, "The Word Goodbye," in 2014 and recently completed her latest LP, On the Edge of a Dream, featuring the single "To Know You Are Beautiful." As an artist, she is also the Creator and Designer of the "Sunny Stone’s Butterfly" logo and motion graphics, a symbol of her personal evolution.
Sunny’s commitment to service is deeply woven into her professional life. Under the umbrella of Oasis Church, she spearheaded "Into the Chrysalis," a confidential support group that utilizes the Celebrate Recovery approach to help women overcome the complex impacts of emotional, verbal, physical, spiritual, and sexual abuse. Her history of advocacy also includes eight years with the SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s literacy program (2010–2019), where she served as a reader for LAUSD elementary schools and a "Pencil Pals" writer for students. Furthermore, she actively supports organizations such as TREASURES, RURO, and E58, continuing her dedication to social justice and the empowerment of survivors.
In this episode, Sunny sits down with Jeanne Pepper to unpack her journey from darkness to creative liberation. From her early days finding solace in the arts to her current work in film and music production, Sunny shares how she transforms lived experience into a beacon for others. Her story serves as a powerful call to action, demonstrating that while the past is an undeniable part of our history, it does not dictate the future of those who choose to keep moving forward and doing good in this world.
