Episode 113: Peter MacDonald

Peter MacDonald & Jeanne Pepper, Ep. 113

Peter MacDonald

Former Executive Vice President Loan Depot

“The only Irish Catholic ever honored as Mensch of the Year by the Orange County Jewish Community”

Philanthropist at Large

Peter A. Macdonald, J.D., is a distinguished legal and financial technology executive known for his critical role as Executive Vice President and General Counsel at loanDepot.com LLC, a major Orange County-based national mortgage provider. Mr. Macdonald joined loanDepot in a leadership legal capacity at its formation and helped manage all aspects of the legal department, including litigation, regulatory compliance, and employment-related matters. His primary professional focus has been the complex task of balancing the operational needs of a high-growth FinTech company with strict compliance and consumer requirements.

Mr. Macdonald's success in the mortgage industry is built upon a strong legal and business foundation. He has been instrumental in growing two start-up mortgage lending companies, LendingTree Loans and loanDepot, into national industry leaders. Before his executive role at loanDepot, he gained significant experience as the General Counsel, Vice President, and Secretary for Home Loan Center and LendingTree Loans. Prior to entering the mortgage sector, he served as a prosecutor and Deputy City Attorney for the City of Anaheim, following his Juris Doctor degree from Western State University and a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Carleton University in Ottawa.

Peter Macdonald's personal journey is as compelling as his professional one. He left his home in Canada after college to explore Southern California, where he eventually established his career and family. He is known for his commitment to philanthropy and his active participation in the Orange County Jewish community, which led to his improbable recognition as a "Mensch of the Year" by the Orange County Jewish Federation. Peter's story serves as a powerful testament to the impact of hard work, adaptability, and giving back to the community that fostered his dreams.
