Episode 212 Kim Turner

Kim Turner

Co-Founder of Patrick’s Purpose

“Kim and her husband face the reality of heartbroken parents with thoughtfulness, kindness and action; changing the world and the lives of young people in their purposeful process.”

Jeanne and Kim Turner November 12, 2024.

The tragic loss of her teenage son, Patrick, to suicide in January 2018 left Kim Turner and her family devastated. Yet, amidst their raw, agonizing grief—which came in the same week the community was mourning another missing teen, Blaze—they discovered a profound call to action. Patrick left behind notes challenging his loved ones and his community to forge a world that was fundamentally kinder and more inclusive. It was this poignant, final wish that spurred Kim and her family to create Patrick’s Purpose.

Patrick’s Purpose is not just a memorial; it is an active, vital non-profit foundation that serves as the platform for the change Patrick wished to see. As Co-Founder, Kim Turner uses this foundation every day to champion youth mental wellness, community compassion, and intentional inclusion programs. The foundation focuses on tangible initiatives that foster empathy and create safe spaces, turning the silent suffering of one young life into a vibrant movement for many.

This episode introduces you to Kim Turner, a warm and kindhearted mother of four whose life was irrevocably changed, but whose spirit remains unbroken. Much like the Bernstein family, who also faced unimaginable loss that week, Kim has found a way to channel her heartbreak into heroic action. Listen as she reveals what motivates her relentless work, how she manages her grief while spearheading a movement, and what it truly takes to transform a senseless tragedy into a meaningful, lasting purpose. You'll learn what makes this local hero tick and how you can join the movement to make the world a place Patrick would have been proud of.The Turner and Bernstein families have a terrible commonality - they both lost their precious teen sons in the same week. Patrick Turner died by suicide in January of 2018, soon after Blaze was discovered missing. His death left his parents heartbroken. They found notes from Patrick where he challenged his family, friends, and community to make our world a kinder and more inclusive place. Wanting to make sense out of his senseless death - the family created a non-profit foundation that creates a platform Kim uses everyday to work towards making the changes that he wished to see.  This warm and kindhearted mother of four hasn't rested since his death and continues to make this world a better place in his honor, not unlike the Bernstein family.  Learn more about what makes this local hero tick on this episode.
