Dr. Adrienne Matros

Part Chippewa and Part Superhero

2019 Philanthropist of the Year

Dr. Adrienne Matros is a dynamic leader and dedicated philanthropist whose extensive community involvement is rooted in her professional background as a licensed clinical psychologist with over 30 years of experience. Since moving to Orange County in 2001, she has become a pillar of the nonprofit community, leveraging her clinical expertise to understand and address the needs of vulnerable populations, particularly children and youth. Her deep-seated belief in "tikkun olam" (to heal the world) guides her work across numerous organizations, where she is known for being not just a financial contributor, but a truly hands-on volunteer and strategic advisor.

Her board service reflects a powerful commitment to youth well-being, prominently including roles at the CHOC Children's Foundation and Tilly's Life Center (TLC). At CHOC, she is a strong advocate for pediatric mental health, working to ensure children receive holistic care. At Tilly's Life Center, she supports the mission of inspiring youth through social-emotional learning (SEL) and providing essential life skills to help teens combat anxiety, depression, and poor decision-making. Her psychology background provides invaluable insight into developing and scaling programs like TLC's "I Am Me" curriculum.

Dr. Matros also plays a critical leadership role within the Jewish community, serving on the board of the Merage Jewish Community Center (JCC) and as Co-President of Jewish National Fund USA (JNF) Orange County. At the Merage JCC, she co-founded JCC Cares, a social action initiative that mobilizes hundreds of volunteers for community service projects, embodying the spirit of "tzedekah" (charity and kindness). Her involvement extends nationally and globally, with a focus on programs that support Jewish identity, Israel engagement, and services for individuals with special needs.

Recognized for her tireless efforts, including being named the 2019 National Philanthropy Day Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser, Dr. Matros is a compelling role model for modern giving. Her commitment is summarized by her philosophy that one must "contribute but also be involved," a motto she lives out through daily volunteering, board leadership, and advocacy for both local Orange County and international causes.
